The file contains handwritten materials related to the rehearsal and performance of the play: 1 scenario and 13 role books. A list of props is noted on the first page of the scenario. Twelve of the role books are hand-bound into covers marking them as part of the theater lending library that Theodor Bloch operated in Philadelphia from around 1880 to 1895. The following roles are represented: Lord Blount; Lady Sara; Patrick, Kammerdiener (2 versions); Edward; Susette; Pierre, ein invalider Soldat; Madelon; Jacques Bertrand, Fabrikarbeiter; Madame Michaud; Madame Collard; Ninette; and Marion, ein Dienstmädchen. One of the two versions of the role book for Patrick has that character's lines in English translation, with annotations, including cues, in German (indicating that the role book was used in a performance that mixed German and English); all other materials are entirely in German. Some of the names of actors written on the role books are recognizable from the casts of other German-language productions in Philadelphia in the mid to late 1870s.
